It is an internationally played sport which is very similar to Naga Style Wrestling. Belt wrestling is under the umbrella of All India Traditional Wrestling and Pankration Federation which is affiliated to United World Wrestling. The objective of this programme is to help children maintain healthy physical body and to concentrate in their studies and to retain students from dropping out of school by involving them in sporting activities. An outlay of Rs. 57.90 lakh was estimated for 100 schools.
Formal launching of the wrestling programme and State level sensitization was conducted on 30th November 2019 at IG Wrestling Stadium Kohima.
The State Mission Authority has engaged Nagaland Wrestling Association which is a reputed Sport body and a government registered agency for implementation and identification of wrestling instructors. Wrestling Centres in all the districts were identified and wrestling instructors were deputed for imparting of wrestling training. Briefing with video clips of wrestling and history of wrestling were part of introductory sessions.
