Introduction of Culture & Tradition

The objective of the proposed intervention is to sensitize the students about the rich culture and traditions of the State and the Country. An outlay of Rs. 46.05 lakh was estimated @ Rs.5000 per schools for 921 elementary schools. 

Instructions and guidelines for conduct of Cultural and Traditional activities were issued to all schools for conduct of activities. 

5th October 2019 was observed as Cultural Day throughout the State. Various activities were conducted such as storytelling by elders, teaching of folk song, folk dance, teaching-learning of handicraft, weaving, knitting, playing traditional games.

Knowledgeable elderly persons were invited as resource persons to demonstrate method of traditional fire making, storytelling and teach traditional art of weaving and basket making. Theme of the Cultural and Traditional Day was “Celebrating our heritage, Our culture our identity, and back to the roots”. 

The best three performing schools under each block, and best five performing schools under each district were selected and awarded. The best three schools were invited to perform on State Level Kala Utsav Day held on 29th October 2019 at Kohima. The winners were given a citation and cash award. The best three schools were:

  • GMS Old Town Zunheboto
  • GMS Risethsi, a school located in one of the remotest villages under Kiphire district
  • GMS Tongdentsuyong under Mokokchung district
