It is a fun and child centered approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, the multi-sensory method is very motivating for children and teachers. For training of teachers, an outlay of Rs. 32.4 lakh @ Rs. 300 per teacher for 10 days was estimated.
The fund meant for implementation of Jolly phonics for the year 2019-20 could not be utilized during that year due to late receipt of sanction. However, the activities relating to jolly phonics was conducted in 2019-20 with the fund meant for the year 2018-19. First phase of Jolly phonics training for elementary was conducted in the month of November 2019 and Second phase training was conducted in the month of January 2020.
