Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalaya (KGBV):

1. SPECIAL EQUITY PROJECTS

Achievements:

a). Sanitary Pad Vending & Incinerator machines: –

            PAB in 2021-22 approved an amount of 23,04 lakhs @ Rs. 0.32 lakh for each Sanitary Pad Vending & Incinerator machines, but due to insufficient fund it was not taken up. The same amount was carried on as spill over in 2022-23. Likewise sanitary pad vending machine and incinerator have been installed in 150 Secondary and 72 Elementary schools.

           Inter Link Oversees Limited has donated and installed eleven (11) sanitary Pad Vending machines and Incinerator to eleven (11) KGBV-IV.

b). Special project for Equity: Under this the career guidance programme for girl students in 271 secondary schools was carried out.

2. RANI LAXMIBAI ATMA RAKSHA PRASHIKSHAN (SELF DEFENSE GIRLS)

            Achievement:

                        During 2022-23, PAB has approved an amount of Rs. 132.90 lakh @ Rs. 5000/- per school per month for 3 (three) month training in self-defense for girls for 615 Elementary &271Secondary /Senior Secondary Schools. Self-defense activities and trainings to students has been conducted in 886 Elementary and Secondary schools. Under this programme 230 master trainers, 5 teachers each from all the 46 EBRC has been trained. These mastertrainers will now train teachers from the respective Blocks.

3. KASTURBA GANDHI BALIKA VIDYALAYA (KGBV).

The main objective of the program is to prevent dropouts, improve transition rates of girls, retention in school, to bring never enrolled girls to the regular school system. This project was launched in Nagaland during 2009-10 by setting up Residential hostels in 4Educationally Backward Blocks (EBBs) in 4 Eastern Districts. At present there are 22 KGBVs functional in the state of Nagaland.

Girl students are provided food and accommodation to facilitate their studies from the nearest government school. There has been an enhancement in performance and retention in schools. The hostels cater to the overall development of the girl child and offers life skillvocations. There are eleven (11) KGBVs for Elementary section from class (6 to 8) and Secondary section from class (9to 12).
